Major Challenges in the On-Demand Laundry Sector

23 Jul 2017

You know how on-demand services have growing to serve evolved user needs through mobile apps and the laundry sector is no exception. But here we are not talking about the privileges that it has while serving the people it targets as users through mobile apps but we will take a look at challenges it still faces so that we work on these areas and help it getting better in its communication traits, utilization practices and quality references, that lie above and beyond the app solution.

Let’s enumerate the major challenges on-demand laundry sector faces:

Low margin business

Most of the businesses and professions are framed and positioned in a way that they attract users to them and make them walk to the place they put up, to consume their services. Such services are the ones of doctors, architects or notaries. But in the laundry sector, one has to go to the customer’s place to provide them services. Here, to get sufficient margins, laundry business has to find a sustainable customer pool to pay expediency price to them or else they will end up acquiring low profits.

Shortage of skilled labour

No matter how much we grow in technology, we always need skilled people to make the whole process work and attain outcomes. But it is becoming difficult day-by-day to find and engage skilled labor as there’s a lack of proper hiring, evaluation and remuneration system within unorganized sectors like laundry. And if you don’t appraise, orient and pay them fairly they are going to lose hope in your idea and your business will rip apart.

Variables and customer experience

No matter how finely you program your app you cannot fully automate your laundry services. To be able to allow your customers with great service experience with your business you need to customize your offerings looking at their varying needs and preferences. After all, app is just the medium to connect and facilitate and eventually it is you who would be getting the laundry done for the real people who would be perceiving and consuming the service and paying you for that.

High risk-reward ratio

The amount of risk you take in a laundry business does not match with the rewards you get in return. Suppose, if you are working on 200 pieces of dresses and making a profit of $1 per unit you are going to earn $200. But, in case, by mistake, you damage one of the dresses you will have to bear the total sum of that dress which could be anywhere from $50 to $100 or even more. So, you have no margin of error in this case which makes it a high risk-reward ratio for you.

Problems with Logistics

There are persistent problems with logistics in case of laundry service. The most common of these are inability and failure of the delivery team to provide the service on time, customer not at home, fake orders, miscommunication between the customer and the service personnel and a lot in between and beyond. And even if you do away with these, bad and unpredictable weather plays a real spoil-sport.

Outsourcing doesn’t help much

Most of the applications (especially in the on-demand segment) just work as an aggregator to list providers, which don’t help you much as a service. To be able to play big and establish your presence in the domain you got to operate comprehensively and have your own in-house team on behalf of which you can take firm calls and seamlessly deliver to be a dependable service. You need to plan and operate wholly to remain thick and sharp in your offerings.

Final words

Although you can see the on-demand laundry growing fast but that doesn’t mean that these challenges are expected to walk away anytime soon. It takes an in-depth planning and sufficient resources to make the most of this conventional service. And you can only gain an edge over a large number of competitors by putting up well with technological components and the core idea of utility it relates with and of course by going with on-demand app solution with unfailing communication and responsive service proponents.
